A competition for a new footbridge over the Leeds to Liverpool canal at Bootle. The design is based upon boat building techniques; timber for inland canal barges, and steel for seafaring cargo ships - emphasising Bootle's position as the gateway to the Liverpool docks area. New pedestrian and cycle routes are created with local information and historical display totems, encouraging diverse use of the canal and tow path.
