This is a proposed development of 9 new homes in a land-locked site in the market town of St Albans. The aim is to create a small community set back from a busy road leading into the town centre. The arrangement of buildings carefully avoids direct overlooking onto neighbouring properties, whilst creating small inset terraces, tucked behind the existing perimeter wall of the site. Every home has a garden and a terrace or balcony. The materials and forms proposed are derived from a local vernacular, using brick and timber, and a series of openings arepunched through the upper storeys as windows, balconies and openable ventilation panels.
