Croydon Design Guide

HUT’s Corten Extension project has featured in Croydon Council’s Suburban Design Guide. The guide provides advice and support on how to maximise the sustainable delivery of homes in suburban settings as part of the borough’s strategy for meeting housing needs. This includes a section on residential extensions & alterations where the Corten Extension to illustrate an innovative approach to materials in a residential extension. The main function of this small Corten clad volume, built over a dingy courtyard, is to allow light to flood into the adjoining spaces, and reconnect the house with its garden. Largely hidden by the existing garden wall large windows peek over the wall and onto the pavement beyond, bringing sunlight in and framing views of the sky and trees outside.
