HUT are developing a former design workshop into new a multi-unit residential block. After its first iteration as a furniture repair workshop, the building was converted into a glazing workshop for stained glass artist Christopher Whall in 1909. It has had a lot of insensitive alterations since its conversion but HUT’s proposal has been developed following a detailed investigation into the property’s history. HUT have reinstated some historic features on the façade and exposed the original brickwork in order to restore its original character, while creating 2 duplexes and 2 single-storey, self-enclosed contemporary flats.
