HUT have taken part in an international design competition seeking prefabricated, low cost and sustainable housing solutions for a site in Estonia. Hugo and Matt lead HUT’s entry to the competition, run by prefabrication platform KATUS. The ThreeHouse proposal comprises interchangeable living blocks providing flexibility to the buyer, with empty spaces left open for future development. Services are concentrated to the north and accessed externally, concealed by elegant slatted cladding, while living spaces face south. The simple block form has a low surface area to volume ratio and benefits from solar gain with a large south-facing facade. The balcony and first floor canopy provide shade from high summer sun. Alternative configurations and colour accents offer a level of individuality for residents. All entries can be found online here.
