Currently on site in Tower Hamlets this is a deep retrofit and re-imagining of a series of connected buildings in the East End. A former drill hall and vehicle maintenance yard become co-working space with exposed raw industrial finishes for longevity and flexibility. A cafe facing onto the Mile End Road blurs the boundary between public and private, serving both users of the building and the local community. Existing flats above the cafe space are remodelled to create a micro-community of shared uses. The fabric of the historic buildings hall have been retained, with a new roof lifted above a mezzanine creating valuable workspace, infill extensions, and a series of inset gardens and terraces brining nature into this urban location.
