This is the third iteration of our self-constructed Pixel HUT, installed at BOST’s Marlborough Sports Garden in SE1. The pixelated canopy stretches over the heads of pedestrians, loosely defining a shared space which reflects our need for shelter. Moving away from digital technology this time and embracing the outdoor setting, dichroic lenses on the pixels are illuminated by sunlight giving a family-friendly, interactive and playful environment of colour and shade. The hut was installed as part of London Festival of Architecture 2018 and formed a backdrop to the Great Get Together Bankside in June. The hut sits next to ten ‘follies’ by other practices from the Interpreted Identities competition and is being put to all sorts of uses including hopscotch arena, spectator pavilion, lunch destination… etc! The hut is open with free entry from 10am until 6pm each day until at least 19th July 2018 and may remain in place for longer – tbc! There’s lots going on at the Marlborough Sports Garden so head over for a look at 27 Union St, London, SE1 1SD. Photos by Sophie Determann. The press can access high resolution images here.
